Conscious Character Building with Dr Edward Brooks
About this Conversation
We all want to have a good character but what does this actually mean and how do we get one?
Join our conversation with Dr Edward Brooks, an expert on character and leadership, about virtues and ethics and why we need them to become great leaders.
Dr Edward Brooks
Dr Edward Brooks' research in theology and philosophy influences his work in virtue ethics, leadership and character development, seeking to "understand leadership as a personal category before it is a professional one."
Brooks is the Executive Director the Oxford Character Project at the University of Oxford and head of the Oxford Global Leadership Initiative, which challenges assumptions about leadership by focusing on the virtues of character necessary for leaders to serve the public good.
Why tune in?
How can we develop a deep sense of purpose that will drive and direct our life? This is one question Dr Edward Brooks asks prospective leaders from some of the top-ranked universities in the world.
Informed by his studies in theology and ancient philosophy, including the work of Aristotle, he is interested in how the virtue of hope can be understood and cultivated.
He is currently working on two books: 'The Arts of Leading: Perspectives on Leadership from the Humanities and Liberal Arts', and 'What May I Hope For? Modernity and the Virtue of Hope'.
Brooks is also a lecturer at the University of Birmingham and drives leadership and character development programmes at top-ranked universities and with commercial partners in the UK, USA, Europe and Asia.
